The Greatest Show-home? Couple who haven't lived in a house for ten years
convert unloved circus wagon into a bijou home -
complete with a 'throne' loo - for just £5,000

*Frankie Lord and Olivia Dann, who live on Frankie's family's farm in Penn, Buckinghamshire, decided to try and overhaul the used circus wagon after Frankie's father picked one up for £2,000
*The unique wagon renovation took four months to complete and now boasts a kitchen, double bed and fully-functioning shower room, with a quirky geometric parquet floor laid in the main living area
*The project cost just £5,000 in total - and the wagon has since appeared on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces
*Couple previously lived in a log cabin, after planning permission for a house on their land was denied - they say they're now planning on converting other interesting vehicles into mini-homes

It's not quite running away to the circus, but it's not far off...a creative couple have revealed how they've converted an old circus wagon into a tiny home for just £5,000.

Frankie Lord and Olivia Dann, both 28, have spent months transforming the old circus wagon into a characterful - but definitely bijou - home on the farm in Penn, Buckinghamshire that's owned by Frankie's family.

The renovated tiny home, which was featured on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces in January, now boasts a trendy interior, with a double bed, kitchen area and a shower room that includes an ornate 'throne' toilet, which was Clarke's idea, the couple say.

After having planning permission denied to build their own home on the farm - it's been ten years since Frankie lived in a 'real home' - the couple resided in a log cabin in the years before moving into their new wagon in 2021.

Spectacular: The couple invested £5,000 in renovating the van, including installing a kitchen, fully-functioning shower room - and they've kept true to the circus theme via accessories including a red drum, ceramic lion and red striped cushions

Right: The exterior of the van as it looks now following Frankie and Olivia's paint job.
They've stayed faithful to the original colours -bright yellow, red and blue - and emblazoned it with the words 'Frankie's Circus'

On the wagon's exterior, the couple stayed faithful to the original colours use by Jolly Circus, the previous owners, repainting the van in bright yellow, red and blue and emblazoning it with the words 'Frankie's Circus'.

And inside, the revamped interior has kept true to the circus theme too via accessories including a large red drum, ceramic lion and red and yellow striped cushions.

After stripping back the old interior, the couple set about prepping the space for a dividing wall to the bathroom and wooden cladding on the floors and ceiling.

The couple used large pieces of sawn wood for worktops in the kitchen, with a recessed basin and copper taps added.
On the walls, planks of rustic wood cover the main living area and ceiling, with a geometric parquet floor adding to the circus chic vibe.

One end of the wagon is now a shower room and toilet, with an antique chair painted in gold offering an unusual loo; there's a weathered bowl for a sink and and industrial-looking shower, with an ornate head.

Matt black taps, and walls clad in marble-effect tiles, with geometric tiling on the floor, give an on-trend look.

The project took the pair four months to complete and they now use it to stay on their farm during the week while working there.

Said Frankie: 'We absolutely loved taking on the project. It was absolutely incredible to have been taken on by George Clarke's amazing spaces.

Frankie told Buckinghamshire Live last month: 'I started the build at the beginning of March last year. I turned on the radio one morning and heard George Clarke stating that he was on the hunt for contestants for the newest series of Amazing Spaces.

'I decided to send in an email… and then got a phone call later that day saying they were really interested. They came up quite soon after and followed me for about four or five months.'

Not so pretty: the wagon as it looked when the couple first took the project on, which took them four months and cost £5,000

The couple did most of the renovation work themselves but weren't deterred by the hard graft.

Frankie said: 'We would definitely do it all over again. My oldest school friend, Philip Reed, and I are now planning to create a tiny home out of as many incredible weird and wonderful things as possible.

'The wagon is more of a stationary build. It can travel if it needs to but we're just happy having somewhere lovely to stay on the farm.'

A show-stopping parquet hexagonal floor was also added to the wagon, giving it a striking look underfoot

The couple say they now plan to take on similar projects, buying up unusual vehicles and turning them into unique homes

The spacious wagon might likely have been used to transport circus animals - a practice now outlawed in the UK. How the van looked before the couple got to work

'Before building the wagon we lived in a very small log cabin on our family farm. Unfortunately, we still don't have full planning permission so haven't been able to live in a real house for around ten years now.

'It's just been really nice to have a little place that we can call home. The response has been absolutely incredible. We posted some photos on van life on Facebook and received almost 1000 likes for the finished project.'

The wagon originally belonged to Jolly Circus, a UK company that still operates.

Dat kan ik me bij een parketvloer niet zo goed voorstellen.
Het lijkt me dan ook eerder een optisch gevaar....
