2012 Photography Contest Everyone knows the sights and sounds and smells that mean “circus” … but can the essence of circus be captured in a single photograph? The Federation’s mission is “Preserving Circus Culture and Promoting the Art of Happiness.” What does the “Art of Happiness” mean to you? The Federation welcomes amateur and professional photographers to explore the Art of Happiness and submit up to four photographs for the 2012 contest. The best photographs will be featured in a 2013 wall calendar (“Circus: The Art of Happiness”), which will be made available for purchase in the fall of 2012. As in past years, winning photographs will be selected by an international jury of Circus historians. This year, all entries will be available for viewing online, and one photograph will be selected by PUBLIC VOTE. The overall winner will be selected personally by the Federation’s Honorary President, H.S.H. Princess Stephanie of Monaco. The overall winner will receive:

De inzendtermijn is intussen gesloten. Daarmee is nu de jury aan zet. Dit jaar is er echter iets toegevoegd aan de fotowedstrijd: Het publiek kan óók op de foto's stemmen. Dat levert geen prijzen op, maar het geeft wel de mogelijkheid om je eens een echt jurylid te wanen. Zie hoe moeilijk de jury het heeft. Want alle inzendingen zijn te zien op http://www.circusfederation.org/pc_voting en de jury zal er een flinke kluif aan hebben om de foto's goed te beoordelen. Sommige foto's hebben niets met circus te maken. Een enkele inzender heeft het woord circus anders geïnterpreteerd en een foto van een grauwe kiekendief (latijnse naam Circus pygargus) ingestuurd. Maar je ziet er ook foto's van kermisattracties en mensen die wel of niet iets met circus te maken hebben. Helaas komen foto's rond het thema "social circus" (wat Elleboog in Amsterdam doet, maar dan in ontwikkelingslanden) niet altijd tot hun recht. Want de maker weet wel dat de foto bij een jeugdcircus is gemaakt, maar ziet de kijker dat ook? Genoeg tekst. Ga maar kijken op http://www.circusfederation.org/pc_voting |
